Gaeilge ABC Classes

Gaeilge ABC runs two terms of Irish language classes for adults in Bearna and Knockna Cathcart in the spring and autumn, where we provide our learners with stimulating, interactive and productive classes using the Communicative Approach. If you register your class with us, you will benefit from a small on-site class with expert tutors and excellent learning facilities.

We provide 8 and 10 week courses at a few different levels:

Basic level 1 (A1): Basic level 1 is aimed at complete beginners, that is, people who have no knowledge of Irish or who only know a few words or phrases (or who attended an ABC Irish basic level course last term).
Basic Level 2 (A2): Basic level 2 is suitable for people who have successfully completed basic level 1, or who are able to communicate in basic Irish and are able to greet people, introduce themselves, and talk about work matters, for example.
Intermediate Level 1 (B1): The Intermediate Level 1 course is aimed at people with some knowledge of Irish and is suitable for those who have already satisfactorily completed the Foundation Level 2 course, or for those who already have some proficiency in the language due to their schooling in Ireland.
Intermediate Level 2 (B2): The Intermediate Level 2 course is suitable for those who can converse in Irish, who use it occasionally – socially, for example, or who have already successfully completed a B1 course.
Advanced Level 1 (C1): The Advanced Level 1 course is aimed at people who are reasonably fluent in Irish, who can express themselves fluently and spontaneously, and who have a broad and extensive vocabulary, but who do not have much experience speaking about challenging topics (legal and technological matters, for example).

It is strongly recommended that you get an idea of your level of Irish by taking this test before booking a class to ensure you are choosing the class that is most suitable for you. It is also recommended that you read the exact class description in full when registering for it.

Terms and Conditions

A full refund of the course fee can be given to a learner up to five working days before the start of the course. It is necessary to contact the Gaeilge ABC team by email or telephone and request this refund.
If the student decides after the first class that he/she wishes to withdraw from the course, 40% of the total fee will be refunded. After that, no refund will be given to the student.
Gaeilge ABC reserves the right to cancel a class or combine classes.
If a course has to be cancelled, every effort will be made to place participants in another class. The customer will be given a full refund if these options do not suit them.
A student cannot postpone his/her registration.
If a student registers at the wrong level, Gaeilge ABC will not accept any responsibility in this regard. We encourage all our students to take the online Irish test or seek advice from us to ensure they are taking the correct level.
If a student wishes to move to another level, there is no guarantee that a place will be available for them in that level. If a place is available, Gaeilge ABC will charge €10 to cover the administrative costs associated with the transfer. Transfers to another level are only possible after the first class.
The full course fee must be paid before the course begins. It is not possible to attend the course unless the full fee has been paid.
All learners must adhere to our Code of Conduct while attending a course with us.
Under 18s are only permitted to attend certain courses, which are specifically written and adapted for under 18s. Our Child Protection Statement can be found here.
